Beach Cat Rescue is a NJ Non Profit Corporation with 501c3 pending! Our rescue was created to address the needs of abandoned stray and feral cats in our community. We are a small home based rescue that focuses on the rehabilitation and adoption of abandoned, homeless and stray cats and kittens.

Beach Cat Rescue has a very specific mission which makes us unique in our approach and our needs. You can read much information online about the humane treatment of feral cats. We at BCR agree that feral cats have very specific needs and their treatment should be much different. TNR is a wonderful triage tool for that population as well as providing shelters and daily feedings.

However, BCR would also like to address the population that lives in that grey area somewhere between housecat and feral cat! There are so many stray and abandoned cats without socialization who are not feral. We would like to help educate people as to ways they can help with this specific population! There is a very big difference between a true feral and the stray you may be seeing in your neighborhood. Please see our article entitled "The Myth and Confusion of Feral Cats" to learn more.

Everyday BCR goes into the marsh to feed and socialize our Marsh Cats as they await a place in rescue. These cats and kittens are not feral, they simply have not the had the luxury of living indoors with love and proper care. That's where we step in to help. Beach Cat Rescue's mission is to provide assistance to this group of undersocialized stray cats and kittens. We bring these cats into the home, socialize them to an indoor life, provide complete vet care and testing and adopt out to wonderful homes! Please read on to see how you can help us or a  stray or abandoned cat in your own neighborhood!

The beach can be a relaxing place for us. A place of warm sand and sunnier smiles. Vacation memories with the ones we love....

However, if you are one of the many homeless cats who live here year round, your life is anything but peaceful. Please read on to learn about the lives of the Marsh Cats and see how you can help!

For most of us, it's difficult to imagine driving away and abandoning our beloved cats or kittens. The mere thought of leaving our cats alone in the world without food, clean water, shelter from the elements, or our love and companionship, is simply unimaginable.

Sadly, not all cats and kittens are fortunate enough to know the comfort of the kind of lifetime commitment that most of us make to our own pets. The unfortunate ones are the abandoned and stray cats and kittens of the beach and the marshes. For them,  life is an extremely difficult existence filled with hunger, heartache and the constant struggle to survive. Theirs is a desperate kind of solitude and helplessness that no pet should ever be forced to endure.

~ Imagine being part of a family, then taken for a long ride and abandoned on the side of the road. A long dirt road surrounded by water and marshes. No houses insight. You are alone and scared.

~ Imagine being born outdoors to a feral mother with no shelter from the raging storm

~ Imagine being Leukemia positive. You are all alone and dying.

~ Imagine having holes eaten in your flesh by biting flies which become infected.

~ Imagine never knowing a full belly or clean fur.

~ Imagine living in complete terror of everyone and everything

~ Imagine never knowing the tender touch of a human hand, the kindness in a voice or the generosity of a healthy meal. You are so hungry and so scared.

~ Imagine eating tainted bait or poison simply because you are so hungry you need the hunger pains to stop. You die all alone in a field. No one knowing you ever lived...

... these are the harsh realities faced by the abandoned and stray cats and kittens in our small beach community.
